The one on the left is Grandmother Vanderdonck-Jansen.  The one on the right is Grandmother Kool-Vanderdonck.

The car was Grandfather Jansen’s.  According to Aunt Dorothy, Grandmother used to say, “I should come back as a car.  Then he’d pay attention to me.”

Bravo!! You and Steven are doing a wonderful job that I hope the next generation will read with interest. Coming from a geneticist, it is a very personal gift to the family.
Glad you remembered the story about the car!!
TWO POINTS–When Albert, our father, brought Dorothy, his future bride, home to Trenton to meet his family, GM Jansen was very open about the fact that she was born illegitimate and so couldn’t know if there were any hereditary diseasaes carried in her real family. This info is only relevant for future carrier testing and family planning—( there I go again )
SECOND Dad always spoke of an extra “S ” in the spelling of our last name that was lost some where along the way./ Can you account for this at any point?

Valerie, thanks for the comment! I have a letter addressed to grandfather’s mother in Utrecht as Madame Janssen, but that’s all I know. I will post it soon, and continue to investigate!
